3 Tips For New Dads On What To Do Now After The Baby Is Home?
Sep 29, 2020So you just became a dad and you’re excited about this new stage of your life, but at the same time freakin out about the fact that you’re now responsible for this little life.
Did you know that according to a study done in 2018, in the U.S. alone, there’s a baby born every 8 seconds?
Which give or take means there’s a man out there becoming a dad every 8 seconds.
And chances are he may not know what to expect.
The day we got home with our Son, we were excited to be home, but we had no idea how much our life was about to change.
Our joy was shaken up the very next day as I was at the doctor’s office with my son because he had a bad case of jaundice. Not to mention my wife had a complication with her epidural which caused her to have a spinal leakage.
She had to be rushed to the ER as soon as we got to my son’s appointment.
I definitely wasn’t expecting that.
And I’m not saying this to freak you out, but to show you that no matter how much you prepare, things happen out of nowhere sometimes.
As an Alpha Dad you gotta be able to adapt to the situation.
Even though that weekend was hard, I adapted and the next day, my family was home safe and sound.
That didn’t stop me from making mistakes though.
As time went on those first 6 months was a lot of trial and error.
Here’s what I learned.
Tip # 1: Check In On Your Wife
Your wife just went through giving birth and there’s a lot on her mind, check in on her and ask her how she’s feeling?
She may put up a front just so you don’t worry about her, but she may be struggling with something.
About a month in we were in bed about to go to sleep and it occurred to me to ask her, “Hey babe, how are you doing?” Within seconds after asking her that question she started bawling, tears rolling down her cheeks.
She started opening up about feeling overwhelmed and I re-assured her that we’re in this together, to let me know what she needs help with and I’ll help her.
Anything to help her take the pressure off.
After that night I always check in on her to make sure she’s ok and I help her with whatever she needs.
Tip # 2: Devote Some Time to Learn Something New
The monotony of caring for an infant can completely drain you, it’s important for u to feel like your growing and progressing in something
Reading is a good way to do this, but if you don’t like to read, watch something of value that teaches u something new.
Yes caring for an infant is a lot of work, but they take naps and mostly chill during the day.
Use those pockets of time to be productive.
Even if it’s just 20 min, trust me it’ll make a difference.
If you can devote some of that time to learn a new skill even better.
I hear a lot of dads tell me that they wanna make it possible for their wife to stay home and not have to go back to work, but they don’t capitalize on those pockets of time to gain new skill sets that can put more money in their pocket.

Tip # 3: Be Present In Every Moment
This one is pretty simple guys...
I know you’re probably gonna have to work and you’ll be busy, but enjoy every moment you have with your baby
Keep in mind that they won’t be that age ever again, so when you’re there, be present, don’t escape into your head worrying about things you can’t control.
Don’t get caught up on your smartphone scrolling through Instagram in one hand while you’re holding your baby in the other.
Or trying to play a video game while you’re rocking your baby’s rocker with your foot and calling it quality time.
Do your best to actually enjoy the moment, all that other stuff will be there later, but that moment will be gone forever.
Until next time my fellow Alpha Dad.
